Staff Profile/Mathematics Department

Wang Xiaoqing

Before I attended University of Hong Kong for a master's degree in Psychology, I took mathematics as my major in both Shandong University of Finance and Economics and University of Minnesota. After graduating from college, I entered a training school as a teacher for mathematics. The heavy workload used to create a lot of stress for me. However, when receiving regards from my former students and knowing they have been living and studying well in universities they had dreamt of, I started to realize, a teacher's sense of achievement came from our love to students and the students' well-being.

The courses in Han Academy have been designed to meet students' learning needs, and the class size is perfect enough for the teachers here to provide prompt feedback and sufficient support for any student in class. Han Academy also encourages our students to develop insights from what they learn and try to apply their knowledge as world citizens. I would like to focus on providing my students' satisfaction in needs for autonomy, competence and relatedness. And the prerequisite lies in the mutual trust between teachers and students. This is crucial because mutual trust allows the teacher to guide students to respect knowledge, try their best to achieve learning objectives and explore more, and most importantly, to encourage the students to become people with enthusiasm and integrity. In the upcoming semester, I am looking forward to learning and growing with everyone in Han Academy.
